Our History

Initially founded in 2004 to develop diagnostic techniques for infectious disease care using molecular approaches (qPCR and DNA sequencing) rather than culture, the company set a road map for the future of best practices in the field. Leveraging the early acquisition of some of the first next-generation sequencing platforms, RTL was one of the first commercial providers of 16S amplicon sequencing which revolutionized metagenomics and microbial ecology.

As next-generation sequencing technologies have evolved, so have we. We have operated all major sequencing platforms to come to market. Today, being an Illumina Certified Service Provider, we focus on providing the most data as quickly as possible to drive scientific discovery. Our MiSeq and NovaSeq platforms offer a wide range of scale of sequencing depth to tackle projects of any size.

In 2020, RTL Genomics was acquired by its sister company MicroGen Diagnostics deepening the resources and technical capabilities of both companies.
